About The Paddles

“Echo Paddles have the crisp feel of a high performance slalom blade that stands up to the whacking and chipping of shallow rivers and rocky creeks. My Echo blade is entering its third year and when I wanted the feel of a new blade without those rounded corners I just sent it back for a tune up. It came back looking new and ready for another season of abuse…. Can’t say enough about them.”

– Andrew Walker, three time North American Tandem Open Boat Slalom Champion

In response to a lack of high quality Canadian-made wood paddles on the market, Andy Convery started to make Echo Paddles in 1998 for the discriminating paddler who likes the beauty and feel of a wood paddles but is also concerned for the environmental impacts of wood products. Echo Paddles are hand crafted in small numbers from sustainably harvested local woods, limiting the environmental impact.

Over the years Echo Paddles have undergone several design developments including tapered, thin blade laminates, bentwood shafts, Dynel shaft warp and blade edging, and steel tips for durability. A fine balance of strength and light weight has resulted in elegant paddles that are a pleasure to use. An Echo Paddle is a one of a kind, each numbered and signed, and each made with wood that has a unique history.

As each paddle is had made to your specifications, a limited number of paddles are produced each year. Please contact us for availability.

“Anybody can hew a board that will move a canoe, but can they make it sing? Andy Convery doesn't make just paddles—out of the Echo Paddle shop come lyrically hand-crafted connectors that link paddlers and their canoes to the woods and to the water. They're strong, handsome, responsive and well-made.  My Reflection feels great, looks wonderful, and sounds great around the campfire—it's music to my keel.”
